Xinhua News Agency, Geneva, May 21 (Reporter Ling Xin) The latest Global Trade Prosperity Index report released by the World Trade Organization on the 20th shows that the growth rate of global trade may continue to slow in the second quarter of this year.
The report shows that the global trade climate index in the second quarter of this year was 96.3, the same as the previous quarter, and the lowest level since March 2010.
The quarterly update of the Global Trade Sentiment Index is 100, meaning that trade growth is in line with medium-term trend expectations. An index greater than 100 indicates that trade growth in the quarter was higher than expected, while the opposite indicates that trade growth was lower than that.
Affected by factors such as international trade tensions and increased economic uncertainty, the WTO in April cut its forecast for global trade growth this year sharply to 2.6 per cent from 3.7 per cent previously, and predicted that if trade tensions ease in the future, global trade growth is expected to pick up to 3.0 per cent in 2020.
The WTO released the Global Trade Climate Index for the first time in July 2016. By collecting trade statistics from major economies, it provides early signals on the current short-term development of world trade, and provides more timely international trade for trade policy makers and the business community. trade information.
