The executive meeting of the State Council held on the 7th decided that the 127th Canton Fair would be held online in mid-to-late June. This will be the first time that China's oldest trade event will be held entirely in the form of the Internet, enabling Chinese and foreign merchants to place orders and do business without leaving home.
Currently, the neo-coronary pneumonia epidemic is spreading around the world and the situation is grim. The meeting decided to invite domestic and foreign merchants to display products online, use advanced information technology, provide all-weather online promotion, supply and procurement docking, online negotiation and other services, and create an online foreign trade platform for high-quality and characteristic commodities.
"Holding the 'online Canton Fair 'is a new attempt under special conditions and special background." Zhuang Rui, deputy dean of the Institute of International Economics at the University of International Business and Economics, said: on the one hand, Chinese and foreign businessmen have strong needs and demands to continue to do business with the help of the Canton Fair, an internationally recognized important trade platform; on the other hand, the development of China's digital economy has made it possible for us to hold the "online Canton Fair".
Under the epidemic, how to stabilize the basic plate of foreign trade and foreign investment? The day's meeting also launched several blockbuster initiatives, involving the addition of a comprehensive cross-border e-commerce pilot zone and support for processing trade.
The meeting decided to set up 46 new cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones on the basis of 59 cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones.Lao Euling, director of the E-commerce Research Center of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, believes that through the expansion of the cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zone, with the advantages of cross-border e-commerce policies as a buffer, with the help of taxation and other related policy preferences, foreign trade companies in various regions can help tide over the difficulties.
The meeting launched three measures to support processing trade enterprises to alleviate their difficulties: First, the domestic sales of bonded materials or finished products for processing trade will be temporarily exempted from tax deferred interest before the end of the year. Second, the pilot project in which processing trade enterprises can choose to pay tariffs on imported materials or finished products for domestic sales should be expanded to all comprehensive bonded areas. Third, it is necessary to expand the scope of industries that encourage foreign investment and narrow the types of prohibited commodities in processing trade.
Experts believe that the series of measures introduced at the meeting are a continuation and supplement to previous policies, which will help cope with the severe situation and effectively stabilize foreign trade and foreign investment.
Zhang Yansheng, chief researcher of the China International Economic Exchange Center, believes that holding the "online Canton Fair" can make trade free from the restrictions of booths, negotiation rooms, hotels and other factors. More importantly, in the past, trade was based on volume, and it will be more intensive in the future. "The online Canton Fair can provide such an opportunity to better promote the high-quality development of trade in practice, such as cloud computing, big data and industrial Internet of things."
